JFK Law Corporation

“BMC has provided our growing law firm with the support we have needed since 2016. They have been instrumental in guiding us through developing IT systems and policies that effectively supports a team of legal professionals working across the country and allowed us to seamlessly move into a virtual work environment. Their support is timely and effective and I particularly appreciate their strategic advice that has allowed us to move out of a reactive and into a proactive approach to our IT needs.”

About The Firm

JFK Law Corporation is a team of lawyers based in Vancouver and Victoria that represents Indigenous communities throughout Canada.  JFK Law is driven by a passion for justice, offers creative legal solutions and works towards meaningful change.

Areas of law include:

  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution
  • Consultation, Accommodation and Regulatory Review
  • Complex Negotiations
  • Economic Development and Governance

Their Goals

JFK Law approached BMC for assistance in improving their users’ access to data.  With physical servers and server-based applications located in their Vancouver office, working remotely was a challenge for their users – whether from the Victoria office, from home or from on the road.

JFK Law wanted to move towards a serverless environment that did not require accessing a remote desktop.  Ideally, all data would be stored in modern cloud-based applications, reducing their firm’s reliance on aging server equipment and legal software applications.  Security must-haves included multi-factor authentication, data encryption, and identity management.

Once fully in the cloud, users will be able to easily and securely access their data from any computing device, regardless of where they are.  At that point, it’s no longer considered “remote access”… it’s just “access”.

The Solution

BMC worked with JFK Law to create a technology roadmap, and helped them over a multi-year period to migrate to modern cloud-based applications beginning with Microsoft 365 and email, and then their document management system.  Future migrations to cloud applications will include their accounting and document generation systems. Elements of the solution include:

Technology Strategy Services: BMC’s virtual CIO worked with the JFK Law team to identify their business goals, and align their IT strategy with those goals.  Their technology roadmap is reviewed and updated in ongoing semi-annual meetings with BMC.

Project Services: BMC’s project consultants implemented Microsoft 365 email and security services for JFK Law, and seamlessly migrated their existing Microsoft Exchange data.  Our project consultants also worked with the document management application consultants to provide a smooth transition for JFK Law’s users.

Managed Technology Services: BMC’s help desk provides rapid response support and expert legal IT knowledge for JFK Law’s users, and manages other IT vendors where required.  BMC managed technology services also includes the backup, monitoring and maintenance required to optimize JFK Law’s uptime and productivity.
